About The Ozarks Section
OSITE is the Ozarks Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). ITE is the international professional society for persons engaged in the planning, design, and operation of streets, highways, and other transportation facilities. The section is open to all professionals and students involved in the transportation industry around the Ozarks. The Missouri Valley Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (MOVITE) chartered OCITE on February 5, 2003. OCITE began with 21 charter members and has now grown to more than 100 members. The area designated as that of OSITE is the twenty-four (24) Missouri counties in Southwest Missouri including Vernon, Barton, Jasper, Newton, McDonald, Cedar, Dade, Lawrence, Barry, Polk, Greene, Stone, Christian, Taney, Dallas, Webster, Douglas, Ozark, Wright, Laclede, Pulaski, Texas, Howell, and Phelps.
In 2020, OCITE officially became a Section under directive from ITE and has now become the Ozarks Section of the ITE (OSITE).
The purpose of the chapter is to:
• Advance the objectives of the Institute of Transportation Engineers;
• Foster closer association of Institute members;
• Encourage members to prepare or discuss papers;
• Prepare suggestions on matters of policy to the Board of Direction of the Institute of Transportation Engineers;
• Consider local transportation and traffic engineering problems;
• Cooperate with other local engineering groups on matters of common interest;
• Present the transportation and traffic engineering point of view consistent with established Institute of Transportation Engineers policies; and
• Encourage the introduction of transportation and traffic engineering courses in colleges, universities, and technical schools in the Chapter.
OSITE is proud to be a part of the Missouri Valley District of ITE (MOVITE). More information on MOVITE can be found at: http://www.movite.org/
